Maybelline brush blush Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Body Wash & Soap

Following my review on the Thursday Plantation range last month, I’ve added their Tea Tree Refreshing Body Wash and the Tea Tree Organic Soap to my skin care collection. As mentioned, I did like their products quite a bit and since I needed to replenish my body wash, I decided to purchase the products under this brand as they’re easily maybelline brush blush available and pretty much affordable.

Certified organic range
For those who are new to the brand, Thursday Plantation has a full range of products that are said to be naturally derived; free from parabens, petrochemicals, propylene glycol, laurly sulphates, polysorbates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic colours and animal derived ingredients with at least 70 per cent certified organic.

Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Refreshing Body Wash 200ml S$17.45

Ingredients:Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Water, Decyl Glucoside, Glycerin*, Coco-Betaine, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Melauleuca Aternifolia (Tea Tree) Left Oil, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Equisetum Arvense Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Oil, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Limonene, Citral, Geraniol. *certfied organic ingredient – 72% certified organic / 100% naturally derived.

Although I did like the Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Dry Skin Relief, but I have to concede that the medicinal smell of tea tree oil can be a bit of a turn off. So I only used the product at night but good thing my family members are not complaining as the scent does not linger. But I was still a bit leery about trying out the body wash as I prefer my body washes to smell refreshing and pleasant. I actually hadn’t noticed that this comes with lemongrass, lime and orange until I started using it. So the smell of the tea tree oil isn’t strong and maybelline brush blush in fact, this body wash is exactly what its name denotes – refreshing! I like this and use this in the evenings, followed with the Tea Tree Dry Skin Relief. Both products work to relieve the itchiness that I sometimes get on my arms and thighs in the evenings. The only thing is that I wish this product foams more as I feel cleaner with foaming body washes. But that’s a small drawback for me as I’m compensated with the refreshing feeling after each wash, which does make me feel clean, even if it is just in the mind. (^_^)

Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Organic Soap 100g S$7.35

Ingredients: Sodium Palmate*, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Glycerin, Water/Aqua, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil*, Limonene. *certfied organic ingredient – 97% certified organic / 100% naturally derived.

The organic soap foams more than the body wash but it leaves me feeling too squeaky clean as it is less moisturizing than the body wash. The smell of the tea tree oil is also a lot stronger with the soap. This bar can be used on the face but I’ve not tried as I generally dislike using soap for my face. I guess this will suit those with acne or problematic skin maybelline brush blush and who like the idea of using soap either as a facial wash or body wash as although it leaves the skin squeaky clean, it does not leave the skin dry and tight.

Overall summary
I think the Thursday Plantation range are worth checking out for those with acne and problematic skin. I have somewhat sensitive skin on my body and so far, their products work well for me to relieve me of the itchiness that I sometimes suffer in the nights. I also think the body wash and soap help with body acne for I noticed that some red bumps on my body disappearing after using these products.

Sally hansen lip inflation FitFlop High Summer ’11: flirty, fun & feminine!

I didn’t know FitFlop comes with their very own iconic red nail varnish! Well, not until I attended a media invite this week to preview their High Summer 2011 collection. And that’s when I found out that one of the founders of FitFlop, Marcia Kilgore, was actually the founder of Bliss spas. The nail varnish however, is not for sale, but used mostly as a promotional tool. But I managed to score one for myself and am wearing it now. Heh. Oh, that’s not my sally hansen lip inflation feet you see in the picture here. They belong to Lynly Fong, Director of Spirit Sports that distributes FitFlop. And those are the new Floretta – pretty aren’t they?

More feminine power
I think many ladies will be drawn to the new feminine designs. They also come with slimmer-width midsole compared to the sporty designs. So it’s no wonder that they are expected to be sold like hot cakes! Are you drooling over them already? But I wish they’ll also bring in Fiorella designed by Anna Sui exclusively for FitFlop, which is really really pretty.

Floretta S$169.90 to be launched real soon
Designed with stunning oversized soft leather flowers on a minimal strap with four choices of colors to choose from – indium, antique white, rosa pink, and bronze leather. Each pair will retail at S$169.90.

Frou S$169.90 to be launched in April 2011
The frilly, floral-inspired FROU with layers of folded suede ruffles. Frou will retail at S$169.90 too but will only launch in April here with sally hansen lip inflation four choices too – black, electric indigo, fuchsine, and pebble.

Lolla S$139.90 to be launched in April 2011
Another interesting design is LOLLA, a charming chic and amazingly comfy raffia-wrapped wedge which cleverly conceals FitFlop’s muscle-activating Microwobbleboard™ midsole. Available in black, chocolate, cougar, super navy and liberty.

Luna S$129.90 to be launched in April 2011
Add some sparkling chic with these designed with two bevelled edge jewels on a slim line toe-post. Comes in black, bronze leather and sally hansen lip inflation pewter.

My reviews on FitFlop
FitFlop footwear carries the APMA’s Seal of Acceptance and is recognised by leading medical and health professionals around the globe. And Viva Woman is no stranger to FitFlop, having published various FitFlop reviews already. Without going into details about FitFlop’s patent-pending Microwobbleboard technology that serves to activate leg and bottom muscles more, I find their shoes really comfy and they have also helped in alleviating my back problem. I learnt through the media preview that it’s because the shoes are design to increase muscle activation during every step and can reduce shock and instantly relieve foot pressure. So I would highly recommend them. I don’t know the muscle toning bit but I’m going to take a pair on a road trip soon so let’s see if my flabby butt gets toned up k?

Cheapest range of FitFlop
So as you can see, the new designs are super feminine, fantastical and fashionable! For the rest of the collection, check out the pictures posted on my Viva Woman Facebook Page. I also found out that FitFlop retailing here are the cheapest, compared to the prices in the other countries within the region (except Hong Kong I think). So ready to come over for some shopping gals? (^_-)

Lancome hypnose mascara Review: Tremella Orient face & eye masks

Almost S$20 poorer and I learnt that it’s not good to stray even when it comes to skin care. Blame it on the curious cat – oh someone take the cat far away from me please! And I really need to be reminded on why I dislike using face masks for they are messy for me and the whole 20 minutes I had the mask on, I was busy wiping the lancome hypnose mascara serum off my hairline and ears! Grief I tell ya!

Entire mask made from snow fungus
Actually, I have no idea what drove me to get these face and eye masks I spotted at Sasa. Okay, I think it was because of the key ingredient and the entire ingredient list look short enough. In fact, I didn’t spot too many synthetic ingredients and so that piqued my curiosity to want to try them out. Plus they are not the usual cotton or woven masks, but made from Tremella or snow fungus. I was told by the SA that one application will allow me to see a difference – my left brain was really skeptical but my right brain was far more dominant for sure.

Tremella Orient Intensive Facial Mask S$13
Only five ingredients were listed -Tremella Gel, Purified Water, Arbutin, Aloe Vera Gel, and Hyalauronic Acid – and that was why I decided to give it a try although I was wondering what’s really in that Tremella Gel. I believe it contains more ingredients and the SA had no idea either. But I told myself, okay, let’s give this a one-time application; it can’t be too bad right? Well, because the mask is made from Tremella as claimed, and so it’s soft and fitted very well onto my face. But the mask was over saturated with gel and the serum was dripping onto my hairline and ears almost continuously. Messy! In terms of results, there were some brightening effects all right but I also noticed I had some small red bumps the morning after.

Tremella Orient Eye Recovery Mask S$6.90
This eye mask had one extra ingredient compared to the face mask and that is witch hazel. So here’s the full ingredient list – Tremella Gel, Purified Water, Arbutin, Aloe Vera Gel, Hyalauronic Acid, and With Hazel. I think this isn’t necessary if you’re using the face mask too but anyhow, I got it too for the sake of trying it out and while it may have helped with some of my fine lines, it didn’t do anything to reduce the puffiness or dark circles.

Overall summary
These masks obviously don’t suit my combination skin well. I suspect it has something to do with the amount of Hyalauronic Acid for my skin usually breaks out if this is one of the key ingredients. While they did have some brightening effects, but I lancome hypnose mascara have to give them a low rating for the claim that there will be skin improvement in just one application. Plus, the price is pretty steep. I think ladies with drier skin type might find favor with this one. Any of you tried before?

Makeup sponge or brush for mineral foundation?

I never talked about my beauty goal for this year but one of them is actually to use more natural makeup. So the first thing I did was to switch back to using mineral makeup, thanks to the customized mineral foundation from Lolita New York. I did not lay my hands immediately upon receiving it but only started using it recently. As some of you may know, I was using using several brands of mineral makeup for over a year but when my skin broke out in acne, I gave them up because the coverage just wasn’t good enough for me. Well, I just realized that perhaps using kabuki brushes ain’t so great for my acne blemished skin afterall when it comes to MMU.

A need for more creativity with makeup application
Okay, I admit that while I’m visually driven, but I’m not creative when it comes to makeup. Yup, I’m quite a noob here. When I started using mineral makeup, I was just doing the “swirl, tap, buff” with my kabuki brushes. I didn’t know that I could use sponges to do the job. Oh okay, I might have read about using flocked sponges for mineral makeup but just never tried. I guess the primary reason was because my kabuki brushes did the job for me and so I didn’t bother to experiment. I mean, why fix if it ain’t broken right? Make no mistakes though; I still love my kabuki brushes but when it comes to mineral foundation, they don’t give me sufficient coverage anymore because of my acne blemished skin. It was only end of last year that I found out from Jo of Lolita that sponges do a better job of application. And then it got me – a brush gives lighter coverage and a makeup sponge or flocked sponge will yield a heavier coverage. Hello, I must have forgotten to put on my brain!

Getting a heavier coverage with mineral makeup
There is no right or wrong way to apply mineral makeup but the key is to experiment. I didn’t bother before but all is not too late. I use a normal makeup sponge to dab on the mineral foundation and the coverage is good enough. In fact, I find that it gives me better control in terms of coverage. Plus, it covers up my pores better! And one more thing I did to get heavier coverage was to use a liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer beneath. Some ladies seem to like using flat top brushes but I found that gave me the least coverage. And there are some that use a kabuki brush first and then a flocked sponge to smooth the edges, like around the nose area. I guess at the end of the day, it depends on the condition of your skin and your preferences.

Using mineral makeup wet
I did try to apply mineral makeup wet but found that it did not work for me. Somehow, the minerals get soaked up in the sponge and I got very little coverage. Or, the powder gets wiped away by the sponge instead. I wonder why some ladies say this gives them better coverage.

How does flocked sponges compare with normal makeup sponges?
Many of you are well versed with makeup, more so than me at least. So let me ask you – what’s the difference between a flocked sponge and a normal makeup sponge? Okay, I think the shape differs so the former makes it easy to apply powder. But other than that, are there benefits in using a flocked sponge to apply mineral makeup? Where can I get the best flocked sponge?

Loreal acne response intensive adult acne peel Non-toxic nail polishes & nail polish remover

See what I bought from an organic store in Serangoon Gardens – two non-toxic and chemical-free nail polishes plus an organic nail polish remover, which are all free of toluene, formaldehyde, & phthalate (DBP)! I was actually spoilt for choices as there were an loreal acne response intensive adult acne peel assortment of nail colors to pick but since each bottle was retailing at S$16, I decided to only pick two to try out first.

Safe for pregnant women and children
According to the website, this brand of Karma Organic nail polishes and nail polish removers are said to be natural and comes in than 90 colors, including glow-in-the-dark shades for children. The store in Singapore doesn’t offer all the 90 shades, but I would say they’re more than enough to brighten my nails. I’m not familiar with what it really means when a nail polish is said to be natural, as even though the Karma Organic nail polishes are indeed 3 free (no Toluene, Formaldehyde, or DBP) but I still find them smelling like normal nail polishes. However, I would concede the smell isn’t so strong; at least the smell is only evident upon first application and doesn’t linger in the room like my other nail polishes. Hence, while I am unable to concur that the nail polishes are 100% natural but they’re definitely more so than the usual brands. I’m assuming based on what I’ve read that nail polishes that are 3 Free are good enough as they’re said to be safe for both pregnant women and children.

Wide assortment of colors
Before coming across this brand of non-toxic nail polishes, I was under the impression that non-toxic and chemical-free nail polishes are probably more limited in terms of choice of colors. But it’s apparently not. While I didn’t make a count, but the store carries at least 20 to 30 shades of nail polishes and some colors are pretty exciting looking. They even have glow-in-the-dark shades.

Shades I picked
As many loreal acne response intensive adult acne peel of the shades were pretty, I had a hard time deciding. Eventually, I settled for a normal pink color – 10 Mauve – and a shade I’ve never tried – 288 Coffee, Tea or Me? The latter is in a brown shade that makes it easy to go with most of my apparel.

Consistency seems to vary with shades
The 10 Mauve pink shade is very easy to apply but I found the 288 Coffee, Tea or Me? a little thick in terms of consistency. So I had to be careful with how much I used each application. But even though it’s thicker than the mauve shade, I still had to use two coats for the color to turn out perfect, like what you see here. It’s an interesting color isn’t it?

Organic soy nail polish remover
Karma Organic also offer an organic mixture soy nail polish remover that is free of any petroleum ingredients. According to the website, the ingredients for this nail polish remover are:
- Propylene Carbonate – odorless, colorless liquid used as a solvent
- Soybean oil methyl exter – used as a solvent loreal acne response intensive adult acne peel in liquid separations
- Tocopheryl acetate or Vitamin E – for unscented only

Three choices of nail polish remover
It comes in a 4 fluid ounce bottle and is available in three choices; lavender, tea tree, or unscented with Vitamin E Oil. I picked the lavender scent and this one definitely feels and smells more natural to me. In fact, it feels a tad oily upon usage and so it’s necessary to clean the nails with paper towel or tissue after that.   But despite that additional step, I love this nail polish remover! Because it doesn’t contain acetone, and so I didn’t need to saturate a whole cotton pad but just a pour on one cotton pad is sufficient to remove my nail polish on my 10 fingernails! And my usual standard is to use about 4 cotton pads to remove the nail polish on my toenails but with this, I only needed to use 2. You can also see the usage of this nail polish in action from this YouTube video.

Price and availability
The nail polish remover cost S$24 and is much more expensive than the usual out there but it’ll definitely last longer. Plus, it’s better for my nails too because this one doesn’t leave my nails or the skin around dry and brittle looking.

The Karma Organic nail polishes and nail polish removers are available at Organic Basic, located at #01-06 inside the new (but dull looking) myVillage at Serangoon Gardens. The store also carries some other organic skin care products and you can see more pictures of the nail polishes and the store my Viva Woman Facebook page. Check them out! Those in US should also be able to locate Karma Organic nail polishes and nail polish removers easily as the company is based there (click to get to the website).

Review: new haul from Marie Veronique Organics

Thanks to a special promo code, I ordered my usual staples of the Moisturizing Face Screen SPF30, Skin Lightening Vitamin C Supplement and the Anti-Aging Oil Plus as well as some new products from Marie Veronique Organics some time end of last year and the beginning of this year. The new products I ordered included the Exfoliating Cleanser, the Sun Protective Oil and the Moisture Serum. So here’s my review of them all.

First of all, let me say again that I love their products because they meet my criteria of natural formulations with no toxic ingredients, chemical synthetics, fragrances, waxes, silicones or alcohol. Yet while keeping their formulations natural, the company also adds useful ingredients with cosmeceutical benefits to target specific skin concerns. So how did these new products I tried perform for me?

Marie Veronique Organics Exfoliating Cleanser 120ml US$35

Active ingredients: AHA Lactic acid 1%, BHA Black willowbark, 1%
Camellia sinensis (green & white tea), adzuki bean powder, Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera gel), vegetable glycerin, xantham gum, potassium sorbate, raw honey, colloidal oatmeal, rice bran powder, spirulina, marshmallow root, Irish moss, kelp, lactic acid, Salix nigra (black willowbark) extract, Rosemary oleoresin, Lavendula angustifolia (lavender) essential oil, Pelargonium graveolens (geranium) essential oil

Sometime last year, the company wanted to send this complimentary to me for review but I declined then because I wasn’t interested in a daily exfoliation product. However, I decided to order this time out of curiosity, and also to make up for my purchase to meet a certain amount. If my memory serves me well, then this cleanser smells exactly like the Gentle Cleanser. Those who have tried it would agree that it has a lovely scent of lavender and so is very soothing to the senses. It’s very gentle as the beads are rather fine and so I had no concerns with over scrubbing although I don’t use this daily even though I’m tempted to; I only use it when I need a scrub and that is about twice a week now. My skin always feels cleaner, softer and yet, not drying after using this. I find the price rather reasonable too and the big bottle will probably last me quite a while.

Marie Veronique Organics Sun Protective Oil 30ml US$70

Ingredients: Prunus armeniaca (apricot kernel oil), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba oil), capric/caprylic triglycerides (fractionated coconut oil), Persea americana (avocado oil), Sesamum indicum (sesame oil), Vitus viniferi (grapeseed oil, expeller-pressed), Limnanthes alba (meadowfoam seed oil), emu oil, Borago officinalis (borage oil), Rubus idaeus (red raspberry seed oil), Calodendrum Capense (yangu oil), Brassica oleracea (broccoli seed oil), Punica granatum (pomegranate seed oil), Sclerocarya birrea (marula oil), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn oil), Calophyllum inophyllum (Tamanu oil), Rosemary oleoresin, lecithin, astaxanthin, Euphasia superba (krill oil), Daucus carota (carrot seed) essential oil, Lavendula angustifolia (lavender) essential oil, Cananga odorata (ylang ylang) essential oil, Curcuma longa Rhizome (curcuma) essential oil

I was using the MVO Anti-Aging Oil Plus beneath the Moisturizing Face Screen and was happy with it. However, I’m always on the lookout for more protective products in the day and so this one caught my eye. In terms of ingredients, the Anti-Aging Oil Plus had served me well but this one had other types of beneficial oils like coconut oil, which is good for fighting free radicals and aiding skin healing and repair. The other oils like emu, broccoli seed, red raspberry seed and yangu are also good in providing extra UV protection so I get more peace of mind using this along with the Moisturizing Face Screen. This is oil all right, and so about two to three drops is good enough to be used and I use it underneath my Moisturizing Face Screen, which is meant to be sitting on top of the skin. It has a light scent and the two to three drops I apply do not make my skin oily or greasy. I would describe it as just nice and I love it. A bit pricey but the ingredients are all good stuff.

Marie Veronique Organics Moisture Serum 30ml US$80

Ingredients: Camellia sinensis (green & white tea), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba oil), Prunus armeniaca (apricot kernel oil), Vitus viniferi (grapeseed oil, expeller-pressed), Rubus idaeus (red raspberry seed oil), vegetable glycerin, arabinogalactin, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), kombucha extract, Sambucus nigra (elderberry) extract, dipotassium glycyrrhizate (licorice) extract, uva ursi (bearberry) extract, gum tragacanth, potassium sorbate, xantham gum, Cosmocil CQ*, Lonicera japonica (honeysuckle), niacinamide, beta glucan, Rosemary oleoresin, Cistus incanus (cistus) essential oil, Daucus carota (carrot seed) essential oil, Lavendula angustifolia (lavender) essential oil

I had wanted to get the Skin Lightening Serum but settled for this, which retails for about half the price. The ingredients look good to me as although the product is formulated to increase hydration, it also has ingredients to help with skin repair. In addition, I was planning to use this together with the Skin Lightening Vitamin C Supplement and so it would help in terms of brightening and evening my skin tone too. By virtue of its name, this product contains humectants that increase the epidermal water content so as to allow our skin to retain moisture. So I only use this together with an oil and no more moisturizer after that. It is definitely more hydrating that the Skin Lightening Serum but I find I have to be carefuly using this around my eyes for I noticed a tiny red bump near my eyebrow after a few days of using it (I have a habit of dabbing most of my stuff around my eyes). Other than that, I’m happy to use this serum.

Marie Veronique Organics Skin Lightening Vitamin C Supplement US$60

Active ingredients: l-ascorbic acid, kojic acid, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, n-acetyl glucosamine, niacinamide. Inactive ingredients: food starch

I have reviewed this product before and at that time of review, I gave this product a low rating. However, I’m already into my third bottle so that just goes to show I do love this product and it’s time to revise my rating. In my earlier review, I mentioned that I like the results that this product brought about but just didn’t like the powdery residue it left behind. Well, I still do not like the powdery residue it leaves behind but I really enjoy the benefits very much. I mix one capsule together with the Moisture Serum and then just pat into my skin. It is really doing something for my skin as I noticed that it has improved the elasticity of my skin. In addition, my skin always look brighter the morning after using this. So I was using it almost daily but I will stop to test another product soon. But rest assure, I’m be coming back to use this product again and again!

Overall summary
I’m really happy with these new products I’ve purchased as they’re serving me well. I think many of you who have tried the Marie Veronique Organics range will agree with me that their products are rather good stuff. And for those with problems using the Moisturizing Face Screen, the best is to use the product with an oil underneath. Otherwise, try patting it into your skin before blending. I tried that method when I was using the Face Screen with the Madara moisturizer and it worked nicely for me.

The denim cheongsam from the Dressing Room

So here are the pictures of me in cheongsam that I promised to show even though Chinese New Year is already over. This is a dress I received from Dressing Room in Hong Kong for review. I picked this because I have never put on a cheongsam for the life of me and was curious as to how I would look. Since it’s complimentary, I thought it won’t be much of a loss if I didn’t look good in it. And actually after requesting for it, I was a tad worried that it won’t fit well because it is ready made. But my worry was unfounded for the dress turned out fitting, thanks to the slightly stretchable denim material.

This denim cheongsam is manufactured exclusively for Dressing Room and is available in two fabrics; the blue with pink flower print you see here and another is a black with white polka dots and red rose print. The dress is also available in cap sleeves or halter neck as well as two styles of Chinese Frog button available.

I am kind of shy to show too much of my arms and so I picked the cap sleeves and decided to go with the complicated Chinese Frog button. I thought, heck, might as well just go completely TRADITIONAL! When I first got the dress and tried it on, I was dismayed because of some unkind remarks made by my hubby. But I decided to put it on the first day of Chinese New Year anyway.

And what do you know? I received quite a number of compliments. Some even thought the dress was custom made! Anyway, I thought the really good thing was, my tummy wasn’t bulging and that’s a relief for I think I’ve put on some weight and well, I certainly didn’t want to be seen as if I was about to burst in the dress.

Although the fit was good, I think I would look better if I’m taller for the dress looks a lot shorter and chic looking on the mannequin. It would also be nice if the company were to try designing an empire cut cheongsam with a flare bottom for next year. I’ll be keen to get one of those. And with a flare bottom, I won’t have to worry about my tummy showing if I were to put on more weight next year! (^~^)

The side slits are decent enough but I guess it’s also because the dress is longer for me. Well, I’m happy with them since I didn’t have to figet whenever I sit down as in the case when the slit rides up too high.

Promo code for Viva Woman readers
Okay, other than this denim cheongsam, Dressing Room offers other interesting apparel and here are some dresses that I like from the website. As mentioned, the online store is based out of Hong Kong but they deliver to 18 countries. Prices are sort of mid range and for Viva Woman readers only, the company has extended a 10% discount. Just quote VIVA10 when you check out.  And here is where you start shopping! (^∇^)

Maybelline wet shine wet look nail color 0 5 oz Share: are you sold by ‘magic’ beauty products?

Magic Cream. Magic Elixir. maybelline wet shine wet look nail color 0 5 oz Magic Skin Care. Magic Facial. And Magic What Nots. The word ‘magic’ seems quite common in the cosmetic industry. I’ve come across a couple of products using this word as a prefix and I wonder if these products generally do well. I mean, the word does conjur images of miraculous performance and instant results doesn’t it? Or is it abracadabra and then poof?

Marketing gimmick?
I agree that products using the word ‘magic’ as a prefix do draw some attention; at least I do pick up such products to check them out and some times even purchase them if the sucker in me is strong that moment. However, I always wonder why companies want to coin their products with the prefix ‘magic’. It’s too gimmicky to me and most of the time, such products actually raise both the skeptical antenna in me and my expectations of the product.

Magic products I have tried
Granted, there are products that work like magic but these are few and far between – I haven’t come across one that worked magic for me so far. For example, I was so excited when I first purchased the Egyptian Magic Cream but I have still have three quarters of the cream in the container unused. It didn’t do much for me, although it works magic for my son. So calling something ‘Magic XX’ is not a good marketing positioning in my opinion. In fact, people can maybelline wet shine wet look nail color 0 5 oz become exceptionally critical of products coined as such and the strategy can backfire.

Share your views!
So what about you? Are you drawn to products that bears the prefix ‘magic’ in their names? Do you find yourself wanting to check the products out? And do they fulfill your expectations or disappoint you most of the time? What are those that have worked for you?

Jerome alexander 2000 kisses creamy lipstick 0 23 oz Buds for Kids: organic skin & haircare I can use too

I was kind of surprised when Eric of Bud Cosmetics wanted to send me these new products for review. Maybe he read that I was looking for a new shampoo and shower gel for my son after I finally gave up on Baby Bee? Anyway, it’s no secret that I share stuff with my son, particularly his shower gels. He doesn’t use my stuff though because well, he’s still a kid ya so those I use may not be suitable for him. But whatever he uses on his skin is good enough jerome alexander 2000 kisses creamy lipstick 0 23 oz for me. (^_^)

Natural & Organic cosmetic certified according to ECOCERT standard
Buds for Kids by the way, is made in Malaysia. Yep! It’s from the same people who made Buds Baby products. Nearly 100% of the total ingredients in these products are from organic farming and so the products are all certified by ECOCERT Greenlife conforming to ECOCERT standard. The first thing that caught my eye was the design on the packaging – so colorful and cheery!

Buds for Kids: Orange Shower Gel 250ml S$17.95

Ingredients: Aqua/water, aloe barbadensis leaf juice*, decyl glucoside, sodium lauroyl glutamate, xanthan gum, citrus dulcis (sweet orange) oil*, parfum, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, tocopherol, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil. *Ingredients from Organic Farming. Parfum made from essential oils

Okay, I gotta admit that I love this too. Well, citrus is a favorite scent of mine and this one is really full of the smell because it contains pure jerome alexander 2000 kisses creamy lipstick 0 23 oz organic sweet orange essential oil. It’s a great scent for that perk-me-up either in the morning or after a long, sweaty day. It foams really well too so when I used this on my son and myself, we both felt really fresh and clean afterwards. Plus, my skin didn’t feel dry too so it’s truly nice.

Buds for Kids: Orange Shampoo 250ml S$19.50

Ingredients: Aqua/water, aloe barbadensis leaf juice*, decyl glucoside, sodium lauroyl glutamate, xanthan gum, PCA glyceryl oleate, parfum, citrus dulcis (sweet orange) oil*, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, tocopherol, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil. *Ingredients from Organic Farming. Parfum made from essential oils.

I didn’t try this because I think my hair needs a “more specific” type of shampoo. In any case, this one feels similar to the shower gel. In fact, the ingredients are very close and I thought they must as well just combine two in one because that’s so much more convenient and cost effective. But I guess there’s an obvious commercial reason for having two separate products huh?

Buds for Kids: Lavender Conditioner 100ml S$19.50

Ingredients: Aqua/water, aloe barbadensis leaf juice*, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil*, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter) fruit*, PCA glyceryl jerome alexander 2000 kisses creamy lipstick 0 23 oz oleate, xanthan gum, tocopherol, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil*, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate. *Ingredients from Organic Farming.

The orange shower gel and shampoo are for the boys while there is a lavender range for the girls. However, the company only made one conditioner in lavender for both boy and girls. The real deal is, young boys don’t really need to use a hair conditioner as often as girls for their short hair is naturally quite soft. In addition, the shampoo is quite mild so it doesn’t dry nor tangle up the hair either. However, I did use the conditioner for my son and he loves the lavender scent too. More importantly, he loves how smooth and soft his hair felt afterwards. I can also use this too for it works well for my short hair.

Build eco awareness in kids
According to the company, Buds for Kids is a range of toiletries created just for the environmentally aware kids of today. Well, seriously, I don’t know about that because I don’t think my son is really environmentally aware because I’m the one making all the decisions as to what products he should use. I started him on organic bathing products since he was a baby but I’ve never bothered to educate him about it. So he has no idea what ECOCERT means of course and he doesn’t care for the ingredients; the only thing that affects him is the smell. He loves this range because he said they make him smell like a walking orange. In his words, “I’M A FRUIT!”

Overall summary
Personally, I enjoyed bathing him in these products primarily because of the scent. Plus, they feel gentle to the skin and yet, jerome alexander 2000 kisses creamy lipstick 0 23 oz foams well enough to remove all the dirt and perspiration. Definitely good for smelly little boys! The range, in my opinion, also isn’t so pricey. In fact, I would say the prices are reasonable compared to other organic range for kids and so I’ll be happy to replenish these in time to come for him and me. (~_^)

Availability
Buds for Kids is available in Singapore from Bud Cosmetics located at #03-32 Mandarin Gallery or #01-66 Square 2 in Novena. And of course the products are available at various locations in Malaysia. For a list of where to purchase in Malaysia, look up details on the Buds website.

Elizabeth arden sheer lights illuminating tinted moisturizer spf 15 1 7 fl oz Share: do you decant your beauty products?

I know most people probably decant their beauty products into smaller bottles or jars when they travel. But other than for traveling purposes, do you decant your skin care products into smaller containers for daily usage? I do that a elizabeth arden sheer lights illuminating tinted moisturizer spf 15 1 7 fl oz lot with the DIY ingredients because I usually like to keep them as fresh as possible so I usually decant my hydrosols or aloe vera for example, into smaller bottles while the big jars stay into the fridge. I also like to decant some of the essential oils I get from Garden of Wisdom into smaller bottles for convenience.

Decanting from open jars
As for my creams, I usually leave them in the original bottles unless they come in an open jar. Open jars aren’t the best of packaging when it comes to preserving the quality of a product and so to retain as much of the potency of the product as possible, I’ll decant some of the product into a smaller jar for daily usage. It’s a bit of a chore really and so I usually avoid purchasing products in open jars unless they are just masks that I use once or twice a week.

Where to get small empty containers
For decanting purposes, I sometimes purchase emtpy bottles. You can get them easily such as at Watsons, Sasa and Muji. I also like to recycle those small sample bottles and in the past, I’ll take home the toiletries from the hotels as those come in sizes just are great for decanting purposes. My current favorites are these empty bottles that I receive as samples from Marie Veronique Organics, which I find them rather useful to decant my oils. I also like those small containers used by Everyday Minerals for their samples as those are great for decanting creams or even lotions.

So what about you? elizabeth arden sheer lights illuminating tinted moisturizer spf 15 1 7 fl oz Are you in the habit of decanting your skin care products or even your makeup? What do you decant?

A miracle protein for curly and frizzy hair

Jo of Lolita gave me a bottle of this Silk Protein Plus Miracle Protein when I first visited her custom blend mineral makeup store at Marina Square but I’ve only used it a couple of times. Instead, my bestie who pinched some of it from me, has been using it consistently.

Properties and usage
This product contains silk peptide, silk amino acids, silk powder and allantoin. All these ingredients work to provide moisture retention, conditioning, UV radiation reflection and even cell renewal. Usage is very simple as all you need is to add a couple of teaspoon of the powder into your shampoo and shake well. Amount to add depends on your hair type and interestingly, you can even use this in your shower gel, facial gel, dog shampoo and laundry! The powder itself has a strong scent but once mixed into the shampoo, the scent is almost non-existent.

Personal review
Personally, I’ve tried this a couple of times but I don’t really fancy it so much. While it is true that the hair feels softer and smoother but it doesn’t absorb excessive oil although the silk powder is supposed to do so. So I prefer to keep to using my normal shampoo. I was however told that this miracle powder can help strengthen the hair in the long run so that might be a reason for me to continue using it.

Bestie’s review
My bestie on the other hand, likes this quite a lot. She has shoulder length curly hair and she found the product made her hair smoother and more manageable. In fact, she didn’t need to use a conditioner and yet, she found her hair to be silkier and easier to comb. So my deduction is that this product is probably good for those with curly and frizzy hair or those who want to have silky and smooth hair.

Price and availability
The product is available at Lolita as well as online via Silk Mineral. Three sizes are available and the price for a trial bottle starts at S$5.90.  The other two sizes are the 20g jar at S$25 and the 50g tub at S$42. Instructions on how to use the miracle protein are also clearly stated on the website.

Loreal double extend mascara Use all the serums together or alternate them?

I think serums are important in our skin care routines and most of us use at least one serum, one time or loreal double extend mascara another. However, I think some may use more than one serum so I’m curious as to how do you use more than one. I’ve always only used one serum but currently, I have two so how do I use them? Together or separately?

Serum provides intensive care
A good serum provides intensive care to treat problem or fragile areas and it aims to penetrate deep into the three layers of the skin to strengthen the cells as well as deliver active ingredients to our skin. The serums I use are typically for anti-aging purposes and aim to lighten up my pigmentation marks so I only use them in the night. Plus, I have combination skin and hence, I keep my daytime skin care routine simple and try not to overload with too much stuff considering I usually apply makeup over my skin. In the night, I will usually use two to three products after cleansing and toning and one of them is a serum. So is it good to apply two or three serums together?

Take note of combined ingredients and their contrary properties
I don’t have the “expert” answer but personally, I don’t use my serums consecutively. I prefer to alternate them and use one serum at a time. The reason being that I don’t wish to burden my skin with too much products and the other is because I noticed some similar ingredients in the two serums. If your serums serve different functions, then it is perhaps all right to apply two serums, one after another. However, it’s best to also take note that some ingredients when combined, may have contrary properties – for example, I’ve read that you can’t use copper peptide with vitamin C – so that’s another reason not to combine serums. But if you have to, then it’s best to stop at two serums at one go because using more than two all at once just don’t make sense to me.

Tips for layering serums
If you really need to layer your serum consecutively, it’s best to allow time for your first serum to be well absorbed into your skin. I suppose five minutes should do the trick but in some cases, depending on what you plan to slather on next, you may need to leave a 20 to 30 minute window. Additionally, you may like to know that it isn’t always necessary to use a face serum with a moisturizer. If you’re using a face serum that is formulated with some emollient properties, your serum may double up as a moisturizer. But if your skin is very dry and needs more hydration, then you will need to use loreal double extend mascara a moisturizer on top of the face serum.

How many serums do you ladies use? And if you use more than one, do you use them all at once or separately?

Loreal double extend mascara

I have been using Loreal's Double Extend Lash Boosting Serum for about three weeks now (I missed a few days) and I must admit that this product is really working.
I can definitely tell a bigger difference in the thickness of my lashes .
My lashes definately appear MUCH longer as soon as I apply my mascara, then they look really big.
Unlike Lilash, this serum does not guarantee to make you grow more lashes but rather to improve their condition, which it actually does

Natural looking makeup Being over the top is not always good for your skin

On and off, I get some questions from readers that are worth highlighting as a separate post. One such is from Aleen, who has sensitive skin and she was actually natural looking makeup too disciplined with her skin care routine. Well, in her words, she called herself a paranoid. But I don’t think she’s alone having such an issue as we have, one time or another, fell into the trap of being “over the top” and exercised too much zeal in our skin care routines.

Over cleansing and over exfoliating

I double cleanse every time I wash my face, twice a day, although not using makeup and exfoliate 3 times a week. I even use seperate facial and body towel, change my pillowsheets every 2 weeks and even have another layer of clean sheet to cover it. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, ate vit E supplement and wash my hands very frequently. I also have at least 7 hours of sleep every night and I trim my fingernails short, always. And I stay away from peanuts..! I’m a paranoid.

My problem is that recently my skin is constantly having major breakouts, especially on the cheeks after starting as little whiteheads. My friends advised me to lessen the frequency of cleansing and exfoliating but that seemed to cause more breakouts when the skin gets oilier. (she believes that my skin is losing its “bacteria fighting ability” since I’m being TOO CLEAN!)

Actually, her friend was right and I also natural looking makeup told her that over exfoliating can make her skin dry and that’s why it is leading to more production of oil. So my advice to her was to cut down her exfoliation to once a week and to get an SLS/SLES free cleanser amongst other things. You can read the details in the comments section of this entry. About a week later, this is what she wrote:

Improvements after a week

My skin’s getting better and fairer.. amazingly! (in just like a week plus? super instant results..!) I’ve bought a facial foam with no SLS.. it feels clean and i don’t really need to double cleanse as often as I did before. I applied the water+oatmeal mask every 2-3 days and it really feels refreshing..! It smoothens my skin and somehow exfoliates off the dried and dead skin. I also reduce exfoliating session to once a week. I’m still using toner and moisturiser but surprisingly they don’t cause anymore breakouts recently.

Exercise moderation and balance
So ladies, while you take care of your skin and be on top of it, it’s best not to be over the top. Personally, I restrict myself to cleansing just twice a day and I only exfoliate more than twice a week if I have excessive breakouts. Otherwise, it’s just once or twice a week. natural looking makeup When it comes to applying facial mask, I have tried using one consistently for a week before stopping and then resuming to once or twice a week. At the end of the day, I think moderation and balance is better than being excessive when it comes to our skin care routines.

Clarins teint poudre hydra balance powder foundation 42 oz No buying of shoes during the Chinese New Year

Those who celebrate Chinese New Year know that they actually have 15 days to celebrate the festivity. So Chinese New Year is not officially over till 17 February. There are a whole load of superstitions clarins teint poudre hydra balance powder foundation 42 oz and taboos to be observed during this period and so today, I’ll discussed some pertaining only to the interest of women.

Do not buy shoes during the entire Chinese New Year
So the Chinese, particularly the Cantonese, believe that we shouldn’t buy shoes during the entire 15 days of the Chinese New Year. From what I understand, that’s because shoes sound like the word *sigh* in Cantonese but others point out that it’s because the word ‘shoes’ in Cantonese is a homonym for ‘rough’ but I totally don’t get this. Anyway, I almost got myself a pair of new shoes yesterday because I thought a pair of FitFlop was going at $39.90. It was only upon close examination did I realize that it’s an imitation. So give me a real pair of FitFlop at $39.90 and I’ll buy them Chinese New Year or not!

Do not wear old garments during Chinese New Year
A colleague mentioned that her husband was particularly annoyed that new clothes must be worn during this season. Honestly, I’ve not been observing this for some years now. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. clarins teint poudre hydra balance powder foundation 42 oz But I try to make it a point to at least get new underwear though.

Do not wear inauspicious colors like black or white in Chinese New Year
Red, orange, yellow and gold are popular choices of colors for a lot of the clothes this season. These are colors that will usher in ‘good luck’ according to most Chinese. So black and white are considered inauspicious and taboo colors because they symbolize death and are particularly frowned upon by the older generation. I hardly wear black anyway but neither did I deliberately choose to wear anything red or gold. But I did put on something that was in orange on the second day.

Do not cut or wash hair during Chinese New Year
Not washing our hair during Chinese New Year is impossible to me and I washed my hair even on the first day. Apparently, washing our hair would mean washing away ‘good luck”. I suppose it’s the same for cutting our hair or perhaps it’s also got to do with the avoidance of using knives or scissors during this season as Chinese believe it would lead to a ‘cut in fortune’. I usually cut mine before Chinese New Year so it’s unlikely I’ll be cutting it any time soon.

These are the few taboos I’m aware of pertaining to the interest of women. If there are clarins teint poudre hydra balance powder foundation 42 oz any that I may have missed, please add on in the comments section. So any of you observe these superstitions and taboos during this Chinese New Year? What’s your ‘must observe’ from the list?

Discontinued lipstick Share: do you have products lying at every corner?

I just noticed that I have a ton of products lying next to my printer and they’re mostly hand and body creams plus a couple of lip balms. The other place is the side table of my bed, where I found a foot cream, a cuticle balm and a sleep balm. Granted, these are the two areas I spend most of discontinued lipstick my time at so naturally, I would like to be able to reach out to the products I need. But I also found a moisturizer and a sunscreen in my kitchen! Well, actually those belong to my husband. They very far away from the stove and are placed in a safe, dark corner.

Kitchen counter?
I know some women are fond of placing hand creams at every corner of their home, especially in the kitchen. Kitchen is probably a favorite place because it’s quite natural to want to moisturize our hands after washing the dishes. I don’t place my hand cream there because one, I don’t spend a lot of time at the kitchen and two, I use disposable hand gloves when washing the dishes. *Yeah yeah, that’s just a photo story to grab your attention <img src="http://smilies.mee.nu/light/15_yellow/icon_wink.gif" />
*

So how about you ladies? Aside from your vanity table and bathroom, do you leave your products lying at every corner of your home?

Believe it or not: baby’s pee is good for your skin

Hey, if you’ve always been seeking for some magical elixir for your skin, seek no further than a baby’s pee! Yesh, it’s full of goodness because it will soften dry skin, cure your skin blemishes, and get rid of your acne. Why…it’s the ultimate anti-aging serum! A load of bull? Oh so disgusting? Well, haven’t you heard of urine therapy that has been practiced in various cultures since early history? I know some people even drink baby’s urine!

Using baby’s pee to get rid of rashes and blemishes
I’m not so sure about the origins in other cultures but when it comes to the Chinese, this is quite a common practice, especially with the older generation. You know that rashes and blemishes are a common sight with the newborns and I’ve personally seen my mom wiped various nieces’ and nephews’ faces with warm, wet diapers, just removed from their butts. Nothing too weird there. I’ve wiped my son’s face with his own pee before and yes, his rashes and blemishes cleared up real quickly after that because I didn’t recall doing that for a prolonged period.

Did I try?
So going by the same principle, we adults can also wipe our face with baby’s pee! Oh no, I didn’t try…at that time, my face was relatively good and I haven’t heard that baby’s pee can help remove pigmentation spots or I might have given it a go. Heheh. So no need to wrinkled up your nose at me!

Urine contains Urea
Apparently, the reason urine works is because it contains Urea, an ingredient that can cure various skin ailments and therefore found in many skincare products in its synthetic form. With matured urine, I guess there is more bacteria and waste but a baby’s urine is considered as healthy and sterile – and so it has that added anti-inflammatory properties. Pee from a newborn is apparently, the best!

Tried it?
Okay, I haven’t got any research and science to back me up about using urine as a skin therapy. This is all written for fun. But well, I know there are probably some people who will resort to this. If you or someone you know has tried using baby’s urine on their skin, let us know how it has gone. Well, this blog is both scent-free and odor free. *wink*

Japanese honeysuckle extract a hidden paraben?

When I was reviewing the Pai Fragonia & Sea Buckthorn Instant Hand Therapy Cream, I noted that the company made particular mention that they do not use Japanese Honeysuckle in any of its products as preservatives.  I have seen this ingredient on some of the natural/organic products I use and so I was naturally curious and did some quick research about it and was even more surprised to find out that the Japanese Honeysuckle extract is considered as a naturally occuring paraben.

Here’s the info I gathered from Personal Care:

A plant preservative that is based on the Japanese Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) is available that is described as being a complex mixture of esters of lonicerin and natural p-hydroxy benzoic acid. The commercial material from Campo is called Plantservative (WSr, WMr INCI: Lonicera Caprifolium Extract). Clearly this is a naturally occurring paraben, and we would expect this material to have antimicrobial properties.

Benefits of Japanese honeysuckle
The same source goes on to state that it has been reported that Lonicera japonica has anti-inflammatory activity and though not as potent as the normal benchmark of prednisolone, it would nonetheless be effective in treating inflammatory disorders. This factor makes the preservative very attractive, since it has benefits for its soothing properties and also has antimicrobial activity. There are not many preservatives that would have this dual benefit.

Slight difference between Japanese honeysuckle and synthetic parabens
Unfortunately, the chemical composition of Japanese honeysuckle resembles very closely to that of synthetic paraben preservatives and their only difference is that Japanese honeysuckle contains a free radical that parabens don’t possess. So going by the strict standards of purists, Japanese honeysuckle is also a no no for natural and organic skin care products.  If you want to find out about the research on the Japanese honeysuckle, you can read articles from the following sources:
Chemical of the day
Green Health Research
Ingredient of the week

Not all natural ingredients are flawless as assumed
So given that the facts are already established, then where does that leave us? My take is this is just an example that not all natural ingredients are always good as assumed. Take some of the citrus essential oils for example. Use too much of them and you might develop photosensitivity. But if listed at the end of a product, I would be less concerned.

My take on the Japanese honeysuckle extract
I don’t think the alternatives to parabens are perfect ones and so it depends on one’s threshold and concerns. This is probably an issue for those concerned about their health but personally, I’m no purist. While I prefer the natural and organic products I use to be as clean as possible, I’ve also stated openly here before that I do not mind using a product that contain mostly natural ingredients with some parabens listed at the end of the ingredient list if I really want to try the product badly enough. So I’m not about to discard my products just because of this new discovery about Japanese honeysuckle.  I have decided that if I really want a pure product, then I might as well just concoct it myself. But I’m glad to have learnt more about Japanese honeysuckle extract as I now know that products that use this ingredient aren’t necessarily paraben free.

Max factor vivid impact highlighting dual color mascara 5 places NOT to store your sunscreen

Most natural or organic formulated sunscreen products last you anything between six months to two years and for chemical sunscreens, they typically expire after three years. However, if you do not store them max factor vivid impact highlighting dual color mascara well, then chances are, they’ll expire even before their time is up. As with most skin care products, sunscreens should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight because we know how quickly heat can cause such products to degrade. So here are five places to avoid storing your sunscreens in:

1. Don’t store your sunscreen in your car
Depending on where you are located and if you always get to park in a garage, the car can feel like an oven when parked under direct sunlight. While it may seem like a convenient idea to store your sunscreen in your car, it is not a good idea because of the heat. I had to throw away a new sunscreen I passed my husband because he had unknowingly stored it in the car. The product had degraded even before he started using it!

2. Don’t store your sunscreen in your golf bag or heated beach bag
Seriously, many golfers pack their sunscreens in their golf bag without realizing that they are actually destroying the potency of their sunscreen because their bags are out in the course under direct heat! If you bring your active sunscreen in your beach bag, remember to place your bag under shade, away from the sunlight or your sunscreen would also degrade over time.

3. Don’t store them in the bathroom
The bathroom is typically humid, especially since we tend to use warm shower and so the temperature in there does not stay constant. I used to store some of my chemical products in the bathroom because one side of it was pretty cool and dry but since using natural products, I’ve taken most stuff out because humidity can cause these products to turn moldy real quickly. max factor vivid impact highlighting dual color mascara The same can apply to your sunscreen, whether it is natural of chemical based.

4. Don’t store the sunscreen near a window
Maybe it’s not a window where there is direct sunlight coming through but it’s still going to be a spot warmer than other areas unless you’re living in a country where it’s winter all year round. Best to put your sunscreen further away from that window.

5. Don’t store your sunscreen in your fridge
Okay, I know some people like to store most or all of their skin care products in the fridge to prolong their shelf life. While it is okay by general standard, I really don’t see a need to for sunscreens unless yours is the homemade type. In fact, some sunscreen products might separate and lose homogeneity. If you have to store in a fridge, pick a cosmetic fridge, which may allow you to control the temperature.

Additional help with sunscreen storage
So where’s the best place to store your sunscreen? In the cool, dark storeroom of course! Haha…just kidding. I guess that would be an option for some max factor vivid impact highlighting dual color mascara of you though. And because I live in a country in which I do not need am indoor heater, I have no idea how it maybe like for those of you who needs your heater switched on all day during winter. I wonder if it’ll cause any problems for the skin care products?

I store my sunscreens in a cool place but I’m not exactly sure how dry is the spot and so I always put a bag or two of silica gels to keep moisture from building up. In fact, I found them useful in controling the humidity level in order to avoid spoilage or degradation of my skin care products too.

Img beauty jpg Chinese New Year FOTD & ang pows galore

Hello VivaBellas! How was the break for those of you who celebrated Chinese New Year? I think most of us ate too much. I noticed that my cheeks are much rounder than img beauty jpg before! But that’s a good sign for me because I need some fats!

Anyway, my cheongsum outfit received a number of compliments so I think my husband must be the exception. Here is a glimpse of it and I’ll run a more detailed review along with another outfit I wore for the second day in another week or so.

Besides wearing something I’ve not tried on before, I also wore blue eye makeup after so many years. Blue was a color I was very fond of probably in the 80s. It’s doesn’t come up too obvious in this picture for I applied with a rather light hand – didn’t want to make my brown eyes blue really. Heh.

So were you a giver or receiver of ang pows this Chinese New Year? I was a giver. My son was the receiver.

Mobile phone comparison Organic Olive Essence: Facial Gel Cleanser

~ This is the final part of a guest post from Crystal of Watermoolen on products from Spa de Soliel, which were sent complimentary mobile phone comparison to her for review on behalf of Viva Woman. ~

Earlier, I’ve reviewed three products from the Organic Olive Essence product line – the Gold Healing Nutrient, the Body Butter, and the Hand Cream.   Today, I’m reviewing their Facial Gel Cleanser, described as a paraben-free face cleanser enriched with nourishing olive oil, olive extract and Dead Sea minerals, suitable for all skin types.

No parabens & no sulfates or foaming

Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Organic Oryza Sativa (rice) Extract, Organic Citrus Medica Limonum (lemon) Peel Extract, Organic Olea Europaea (olive) Fruit Extract, Organic Olea Europaea (olive) Fruit Oil, ESP Organic Safe Surf, SC Pro, Organic Safe mobile phone comparison Guard, Salt.

This cleanser is non-foaming which means that it may feel like you’re putting water on your face. If you try to “rub” your hands together when applying the product, you will not experience any suds. The reason is that there are no “sulfates” or “foaming” ingredients in this cleanser, which may actually dry your skin even further. In addition, like I’ve mentioned in all of the reviews for the Organic Olive Essence line, there are no parabens. There is, however, salt in this cleanser, which can act as a natural preservative.

Make sure to follow the directions on the bottle!
Since this cleanser contains a high amount of lemon extract (it is the third ingredient), make sure you apply “sparingly” onto your face. This means to only apply a LITTLE BIT to your face, especially for those with sensitive skin. I think the website may have made a mistake because the directions on the site indicate, “apply a generous amount to the face and throat and massage gently.” However, on the bottle, it says to “apply sparingly.” If you apply a lot, it may actually sting your face! Since I’m used to foam from my cleansers, I applied a lot of this product thinking that it would compensate for the non-foaming properties. It was a mistake because it stung my face, and the stinging didn’t stop until maybe thirty minutes later. So, a little mobile phone comparison bit definitely goes a long way!

Does not remove makeup
Like most organic and natural cleansers, it is hard for this cleanser to remove makeup (even tinted moisturizers). To reap the benefits from this cleanser, make sure to use baby wipes (or any makeup remover) before using this cleanser. But, remember that this product includes natural ingredients which is different than most cleansers that use chemicals to remove makeup.

Gel-like texture and nondrying plus noncomedogenic
Since this cleanser is in a gel form and contains no foaming properties, my skin did feel soft and moisturized after I washed it. It seemed mobile phone comparison like the moisture in my face was retained. The cleanser did not cause any breakouts nor did it really clear my breakouts quickly. It’s still noncomedogenic so it’s safe to use as a way to clean your face on a daily basis.

“Tomato” scent
When I first used this cleanser, the smell took me by surprise! I immediately thought that it smelled like a “pizza” scent, but to be more accurate, it smells like tomato juice! It’s weird because there are no signs of tomato ingredients in the product. It’s not very off putting, but it did take me by surprise. It’s good that this scent is au natural since there are no added artificial ingredients to this cleanser.

Conclusion
Even though I had to add an additional step to my cleaning regimen (using baby/makeup remover wipes before washing), I still enjoyed this natural and organic cleanser more than other organic/natural ones that I’ve tried. For those who do not put on makeup, this cleanser may be a good option. I like the fact that it’s in a gel form, has no artificial fragrances, and seems to handle well with my sensitive, acne-prone skin. However, I am still used to foam when it comes to cleansers, so it did take a while to get used to. This 8 oz facial gel cleansers costs $24.99 at the Home Spa Collection. This product could last for about one month and a half when used twice daily.
